Geoff the Fiddler

The Elevator Pitch
Playing fiddle with musicians of all genres and styles all over Roanoke and beyond, Geoff combines elements of Celtic, Appalachian, and a touch of Cajun fiddling. The result is a unique and authentic American-Celtic style.

The Deets
Steeped in the traditions of Appalachian and Celtic fiddling, Geoff combines them with his classical violin training, and a touch of Cajun spice.
Geoff plays standards from the Celtic fiddling tunebook, as well as Appalachian Old-Time and Bluegrass songs. He also mixes in songs from popular movies and shows (think Outlander and Game of Thrones).
As a multi-instrumentalist, Geoff has a track record of working with various musicians across multiple genres. He played fiddle and Mandolin in the old-time/bluegrass band Sugar Run, where he wrote "Leave the Bottle," and helped produce the album "Pounding Out A Tune." Geoff played drums in the 80's rock cover band Merchant Copy.
In addition to his solo career (where he often collaborates and brings various musicians on-stage with him), Geoff currently plays fiddle and guitar with the Deer Run Drifters. He also plays guitar and sings with the Jazz/Blues duo Red & White, and plays fiddle and guitar with the Old-Time duo Hardtack & Seabiscuits where he also sings sea shanties.
Geoff recently wrote and published the rock single "What's it Called."
Geoff was trained in classical violin in Western North Carolina starting at the age of four. As he grew older, he discovered he could apply what he learned to the Celtic music he and his grandmother loved so much. Benefitting from the environment around him, he also incorporated elements of Bluegrass, Old-Time, and the Cajun music his father listened to.
The result, after years of honing his style, is an authentic and unique American style of fiddling.
Geoff's main instrument is a Bohemian (modern Czech Republic) fiddle from the early 1800's. Geoff plays a German copy of a Vuillaume bow.
